When I first began to look at the books online for this assignment, I was in awe of the fact that I could “read” an ancient text. It was educating and interesting to flip the Hebrew texts that open backwards to our current standards. Then, I began to look at design. In the Ethiopic Bible, the alignment for each pair of pages included a picture, a frame around the writing and two columns of writing. The pictures represented visually the words on the page. Contrast between the large columns of drawings and the horizontally writing helped the reader focus on the words after the eyes had traveled the page of art. The predominant colors used were blue, yellow, green and red. Repetition of birds, arches and columns appear on most pages. Proximity shows when the related elements in the scene were grouped together like the angel is near the person that it is talking to.

Week of 9/27-10/1/2010
This week students are working on a major grade assignment creating an Indian Pop-up book. An instruction sheet and folder were sent home on Friday 9/24. It is due on Tuesday 9/28. Students will use the completed books in class on Thursday.
